My very first light fixture! Ame, the french word for 'soul' is what this piece is called...it represents the light within us that is our soul. I designed it in honor of the Ethiopian people and their culture. We were tasked to create a fixture inspired by a chef and his cuisine so I chose Marcus Samuelsson. An Ethiopian born, Swedish raised, highly accomplished chef who is always championing African flavors and modern techniques. I also included his wife and referenced her time in fashion with the draping of the piece; I used premium yarn to shout out the beautiful embroidery found on the garb of the people.
The design poster below reads: "Ame dawns the color of the cultural food, Injera, but takes the shape of the adornment that the Ethiopians have been proudly wearing for generations."
