This spiritual space is inspired by the African Burial Grounds, in Lower Manhattan, and is in honor of the 12.5 million enslaved African people that have been ripped away from their homes and placed on slave ships in the Trans-Atlantic Slave trade. It serves as a beacon of hope and is a sacred place to release the pain of that journey back on to the sea.
As you enter, the spiritual passageway is dark and you can hear the singing of African hymns praising God in very terrible times but as you walk through the path you come into the sun light and face the majesty of the sea...This is where the enslaved African people of the Diaspora can return home.
